Bonnies Upset by Cleveland State 4-3

- St. Bonaventure suffered an upset defeat at the hands of Cleveland State
University 4-3 in Cleveland today, The loss drops the Bonnies record to
3-3 on the year.
The Bonnies won the doubles point for the second straight match and take a 1-0 lead. Sophomores Andrew Hart and Dejan Stankovic scored a victory at #2 doubles and seniors Nikhil Murali and Mario Arce (pictured) won at #1 doubles. Sophomore Alejandro Nery and senior Sajeel Qureshi dropped a 8-6 decision at #3.
In singles, Arce scored a straight set victory at #1 singles to give the Bonnies a 2-0 lead. Nery would add to the Bonnie total with a straight set victory at #3 to stretch the Bonnies lead to 3-0. Things would then go awry for the Bonnies. Hart suffered his first loss of the season, a 3-set decision, to cut the Bonnies lead to 3-1. Shortly after the Bonnies would drop another 3-set match as Murali would lose 6-4 in the deciding set at #2 to cut the Bonnies lead to 3-2 with Stankovic and Qureshi still remaining on court. Stankovic suffered an early break in the third set and was unable to recover, the loss evened the score at 3-3 with Qureshi on court. After dropping the first set, Qureshi stormed back and took the second 6-2 and raced to a 5-1 lead but was unable to win and dropped the final set 7-5 and the upset was complete. Freshman Steven Steenland dropped an 8-2 decision in exhibition play
LOOKING AHEAD
The Bonnies will host Atlantic 10 rival Xavier on Saturday afternoon. The Bonnies defeated Xavier twice last year and have won 4 straight against the Musketeers.
