Stankovic, Murali advance at Regionals

Sophomore Dejan Stankovic and senior Nikhil Murali advanced today to the main draw at the  ITA Regional championships held on the campus of Virginia Tech.  Stankovic advanced with a 6-1, 7-5 victory and a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Fernando Ferreria  from UMBC.  Murali advanced with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over compatriot Arjun Vaidya of Rutgers and a 7-6, 6-3 decision over Akil Burgees of Virginia Tech.  This was the third meeting this semester between the two. Vaidya defeated Murali in the ECAC championships while the Bonaventure senior defeated Vaidya at the Penn State Classic. Stankovic will meet Tyler Deming of Rutgers and Murali will meet Michael Accordino of Columbia in first round main draw action tomorrow.

Also in today's qualifying draw was sophomore Andrew Hart who dropped a 6-3,7-5 decision to Mike Keller from UMBC.

Leading the  Bonnies is senior Mario Arce.  Arce is seeded 6th for the main draw event and will play on Saturday.  Also entered into the main draw is sophomore Alejandro Nery who is scheduled to play James Dwyer of Penn State on Friday.  In doubles action, Murali and Nery are seeded 11th in the main draw and will play a team from Colgate.  Stankovic and Arce play a team from Yale.  Doubles play will begin on Friday.
